The Integrated Low Pressure Electrolyzer (ILPE) is a self-contained electro-chemical oxygen generation plant for submarine life support service. It is produced by UTC Aerospace Systems (formerly Hamilton Sundstrand). The ILPE produces low pressure oxygen for submarines and requires no high pressure storage. It operates automatically enabling unattended operation. There is an operator interface via touch screen liquid crystal display or laptop interface.
The heart of the ILPE involves proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzer technology, which uses electricity and distilled water as inputs to create pure breathing oxygen and hydrogen as a byproduct.
Electromet supports UTC Aerospace Systems on this program by providing rugged enclosures that house the critical electronics for the ILPE system. Deliveries began in September 2017.
